Thumper (an honest heart warming story)
We adopted Thumper, the 21 y.o., 16 HH Arabian gelding, in April
2006. Someone contacted us shortly afterward to discuss including
Thumper in your success stories. I am prepared to do this now, six
months later. We were looking for a riding horse for a beginner
rider, Todd. After allowing about a month for Thumper to settle in
we tried riding him. He was not going to hear it. We adopted
Thumper on the girl's word that he was ride-able. We have joked
ever since "silly us for not test driving him first." We
started over. It has taken six months and extreme patience, and
with love and apples Thumper has decided to let Todd ride him, and
quietly. It mainly took bagging him (he was scared
of everything, especially a human hovering over his back) and
consistent Parelli type training that when performed by Todd
taught both lightness. That is our success story. Thumper is
now a riding horse. We're very proud of our accomplishment!!!

MARSHMALLOW
At our Spring Benefit Fund Raiser Ride at Mansfield Hollow State Park,
we brought a Greener Pastures rescue resident to participate in the ride
and help show that a rescue horse can be rehabilitated and go on to a
useful future. That horse is named Marshmallow and he was featured
in our write up of that event. The New Haven Mounted Police Patrol
learned of Marshmallow and decided to give him a chance.
We are thrilled to report that he is now living and training with the
Mounted Police. Marshmallow is in training for use in patrolling on
the streets and for crowd control. The Police Department loves him
and he is responding very well to his new environment.
Marshmallow's world now includes city traffic, pedestrians, horns, and
sirens just to name a few. Check him out in the A-thon scrap
book. Here he is today handsome and proud.

Dear Jennifer and Dana,
I wanted to send you all a great big
"Thank You" for helping us find Sammy. Without your
website we would have never found him. He was exactly what we were
looking for and has fit in nicely with our family. I have included
some pictures of Sammy with his new family. You are doing a really
great thing with your rescue and I have nothing but positive things to
say.
Thanks again!
Mark and Karen

Hi there! I always said
that I would send pics of Gesabelle or as you all know her, "Pheonix"
and I finally have some great ones from last year. We might
show her later in the summer, if shes up to it (recovered from a colic
attack). I was tempted to let her be a lawn ornament, but she
loves the attention of being ridden, and she's such a show off!
Well, I am attaching what I have, and I hope you like them!

Wings came to us in May 2003 from a starvation case. We adopted him
primarily as a companion to my young mare that had previously been
boarded. Although, his disposition was a bit "grumpy" we
learned he was very well behaved under saddle. He took on the role
of teacher to our eight year old daughter, who has learned so much from
Wings. While she rode him, he
could be counted on to trot in a very slow even gait, he seemed to
understand this job and has always been very trustworthy. He also
has been the teacher to my young mare, providing her confidence on the
trail. He absolutely loves our
weekend camping/trail riding outings and despite his age (round 28); he
still wants to "go". Wings
is now officially my husband's horse (previously a non-rider).
Again Wings has come through as a "caretaker" while my
husband rides. Wings, has endured so much, he deserves all we can provide
to him, which is a home which gives him all the love and dignity he has
earned.

Hello,
My name is Nicole. I adopted Miss Liberty Genius
"Libby". She is doing great. I wanted to send you some pics of
her in her new home. We have done some trail riding and a little more
riding in the ring, but she has been mostly a pet. She has made some new
friend at the barn. Her favorite one is a Chestnut mare named April.
(the horse behind her on the trails) Thanks for giving me the
opportunity to adopt a great horse.
Sincerely, Nicole
