If you are interested in any of these horses please e-mail to Attn:GPR Adoptions at

Email Greener Pastures Rescue.

Most of these horses are residing at their owner's homes, information on them has been provided by the owner. We cannot take responsibility for horses placed outside of our adoption program. So, if you do not have a signed adoption agreement and a release, it is not considered a Greener Pastures Horse.

Please Note:  As a rule most of the horses available have an adoption donation fee ranging from $200 to $2000.  Additionally applicants  must be at least 21 years of age. Due to the fact that we have limited people resources at the moment, we need to place horses in adoption homes no farther than 2 hour drive(120 miles)  from Salem, Ct.    Thank you.

TIER 2 HORSES BELOW ARE ENROLLED IN THE GREENER PASTURES RESCUE ORGANIZATION.  THESE HORSES ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION THROUGH THE RESCUE AND REQUIRE AN ADOPTION AGREEMENT.

Dilly - Thoroughbred Gelding, Dapple Gray, 16.1 hand, about 17 years old.   Dilly is very well mannered, a true gentleman.  He loves attention and carrots.  Trailers, clips, crossties, no vices.  Impeccable ground manners. He is for an intermediate English rider. He has hock problems which limit him to walk and trot only.  His recommended jobs are Companion or Trail riding.  Dilly is barefoot and, trimmed every 6 weeks, he is up to date on his shots.
Emma - Mustang, Grulla, filly, 15.1 hand, 3 year old. Ready to be trained under saddle. An experienced horse person or someone with a trainer would be my best match. I am dominant in the pasture and very self assured.
Goldie - Palomino PMU Filly, 14.3 hand, 3 year old. Ready to be trained under saddle, so that I can become your loyal mount. An experienced horse person or someone with a trainer would be my best match. I am dominant in the pasture and very self assured.
Nora - Appaloosa Mare, 15 hand, about 14 years old.  Nora is a PMU rescue that has come a long way in the three years she has been with her current owners.  She is sweet and willing but needs consistent and confident training.  Currently Nora is living in an outdoor paddock with a run-in shelter.  She is with two younger horses and is the boss of the herd.  She can be led with a bareback pad and rider but has never had a bridle/bit.  Pictures are coming.
Marshmallow - CHECK OUT MARSHMALLOW'S "SUCCESS STORY" Percheron cross, gray, gelding, 18+ hands, 9 year old. I am looking for a one on one relationship. I am green under saddle and know how to throw a good buck if there is too much pressure. I have been really enjoying trail riding. I get along with dominant mares, but with my size dominant geldings do not work well. I like to chase them and corner them. I require good fencing.
Maxwell House - Mule, bay but with 2 white socks in back, Gelding 17 yrs old, 11 Hands - He is a handsome little mule that loves attention and treats. He has a spot of moon blindness in his right eye that has not changed in the 9 years, has occasionally needed eye ointment for membrane inflammation in that eye. No other known health problems. He can be ridden and was used by the previous owner in a kids riding program. He has a fear of sticks and long handle barn tools from a past home. He is easy to catch and will come in from pasture when called (usually), He has a little experience working on a lunge line. He is used to having his feet done or being wormed where ever he is.  He has been pals with Thunder recently.

Merlin - Half Shire, half Paint, Gelding  - Bay with blaze and 3 socks  16.2 hands   6  yrs old.  English/Huntseat   Merlin is a sensible 6-year-old who loves people and wants to please.  He is very trusting and willing - he is not malicious in any way and has no vices. He loves children and all animals. He is best suited for someone who is an intermediate rider who wants to spend quality time with him and maybe go on trails and do a bit of ring work on the flat.  He has very nice feet and if well cared for and trimmed regularly, he does not need shoes.  You'd never guess by looking at him, but when he was 10 days old, he stepped in a hole and broke his right front leg. It healed well, such that he can be ridden on the flat for short periods of time per his vet, Dr. Baratt (Salem Valley Vet Clinic), but he has a gait abnormality that would prevent him from ever being a show horse. He takes Bute and Corta-Flex for the osteoarthritis in that joint, and this seems to help with stiffness, etc. He enjoys being ridden but can't be worked too hard. A nice walk on a trail or a half hour in the ring is about his speed. Also, he needs his teeth floated every 6 months because he lost a molar about 3 years ago.  Current owner is willing to continue to pay for his bute/corta-flex supplements in exchange for being able to continue to visit him occasionally. That way, Merlin's costs would be about the same as any other horse and she would have the peace of mind that he's getting his supplements

Sammy - CHECK OUT SAMMY'S "SUCCESS STORY" Morgan type, Black, Gelding,13.2H, 20+ yrs old. Sammy is sound and rides English. He can walk, trot and canter. He can do short trail rides. Sammy is low horse in the pasture. He needs to be with just a limited number of horses or ponies that will not pick on him. He does not like being alone and does not do well in a box stall. He is a great babysitter for weanlings.
(Dark) Thunder - Oversize mini horse, Black, Gelding, 38", 10 Yrs Old. His job has been companion to Maxwell. He is loveable and friendly. No known health issues. He has recently been sharing space with TT and previously a mini mule and 2 horses and declared himself herd leader. Consequently he has been getting too much to eat and needs to lose some weight. He is easy to catch and will come in from pasture when called (usually), He has a little experience working on a lunge line. He is used to having his feet done or being wormed where ever he is.
Toby - Appendix, Grey, Gelding 15.3 hand, 10 year old - Suitable for companion or light riding. Navicular in both front feet. Toby has excellent barn and ground manners. Extremely gentle to work around. Stands without cross ties. Gets along easily with other horses and dogs. Affectionate with children. He's very sweet, honest and just a plane ole good boy. He would make a wonderful companion horse. His manners are more like that of a dog than a horse. To own him is to love him.
TT - Mini, Black, Gelding. 33.5", 8 years old - He is double reg. TT can have light young children on him if lead around. He has started to be broke for a harness, but only ground driven a few hours but knows what he should do. With the cold weather he is having a little bout with his front feet, he had founder years ago and it acts up when it is cold.  Sometime and he gets 1/2 butt 1 time a day and a stay in the barn. He is very gentle.

TIER 1 HORSES BELOW ARE NOT ENROLLED IN THE ADOPTION PROGRAM.  THEY ARE AVAILABLE DIRECTLY FROM THEIR CURRENT OWNERS.

Amos - Registered Standardbred, Bay, Gelding, 16.1 hand, 19 years old - Amos is extremely well-mannered and pulls both a sulkie and a sleigh. He is easy to catch, bathe, tie, shoe and vet. His only vice is that he can be a little shy of the clippers, but at his age we just trim him with scissors. Unfortunately, due to his age, Amos has developed an enlarged hock and a cataract in his left eye. However, these difficulties do not make him spooky or difficult to handle. He is turned out by himself (gets bullied easily by dominant horses) and manages quite fine. He requires front shoes to keep his hooves at an ideal angle. Amos deserves a home where he can live out his days in a restful and attentive environment as a companion horse or his hew owner's best friend. With proper management he should be sound for occasional driving (walk, jog) and lots of petting. Note: Fully restored sulkie and sleigh available for separate sale. Contact John 413-572-1077
Contented Child - Thoroughbred Mare, 14.3 Hands, 22 years old . Great Shape. Been open 3 Seasons. Delivered 5 Dutch foals. No health issues current on all shots Recommended for Companion. Robert 860-491-4181/860-309-4012
Doc "After Hours" - Canadian Thoroughbred Gelding, 16.1 Hands, 25 years old . Doc is a great babysitter, but can be easily pushed around by aggressive pasture mates. He does have some special dietary needs to accommodate his previous 'choke' and inability to chew hay. His work does need to be limited due to arthritis but would love to go for an occasional trail ride or hack around the arena. He will stand on cross ties for hours and loves to have his belly scratched. He is truly a love, one of our all time best horses!!! hsundmacker@highhopestr.org
Eloquence “Ellie” - Thoroughbred Mare, 16 Hands, 17 years old. She is a wonderful horse with outstanding ground manners. She is a joy to ride. She likes ring riding the most. She is a careful mare. She can be spunky in the winter – typical of thoroughbreds. Ellie needs light riding to maintain optimum health and flexibility as she ages. She needs good turnout. She is not usually the alpha in a heard. She is best suited for an adult who is an experience rider. She has been exposed to natural horsemanship as well dressage and jumping. She has some arthritis in right stifle which makes her stiff to the right at times. Contact Sandy  203 921 7794
Ginger - Thoroughbred, bay, mare, 16 hand, 13 year old. Goes English. Shown locally, mostly at unrated hunter shows. She is a horse who needs an experienced, confident, patient rider, who is not easily intimidated. She has excellent ground manners, but she can sometimes be difficult under saddle. She is best when she is worked consistently, close to everyday. She can jump 3' courses, but is currently out of shape and sticky with her leads. She is brave and will do anything for her rider, but she does not have a lot of confidence in herself and sometimes gets frustrated if her rider rushes her or is insecure. She is a sweetheart. She has been out of consistent work for 7 years, but she is occasionally lunged and ridden by a 14 year old girl.  Martha 401-480-8275
Kataba - Chincoteague Pony #323, Liver chestnut, mare, 7 year old, 12 hand. Good with geldings. Great driving prospect. She is looking for a one on one relationship to develop trust with people. Left side particle vision , Just had all shots. Real cute. Cell phone 401-640-4691.  (Sept)
Roy -  Appaloosa, White, Gelding, 16 hands, 30 years old.  He is blind, but very loving.  He is like a big golden retriever.  He was vet checked in March 06 and was given a clean bill of health, aside from his blindness.
Socks - Salem Valley Vet - Grade paint, Sorrel Brown 4 socks & Blaze, Gelding, 15.2 hands, 7 years old. Walk trot horse in soft footing. Bute as needed, goes Western & English for intermediate rider. Good with other horses.
